The First Watt Protocol inverts the logic of digital interface design, which systematically eliminates friction to maximize engagement metrics. In the Waxlore framework, friction is not an obstacle to the music. It is the gateway. The physical delay between desire and fulfillment is the mechanism by which the brain's attentional networks spin up, preparing the listener to receive the acoustic stimulus with cognitive depth rather than ambient passivity.

Contrast: The Digital Null
The Digital Null is the cognitive condition produced when the preparatory architecture is bypassed entirely. A listener who taps a screen to play a song skips all three phases: no attentional mobilization, no sensory priming, no delay-of-gratification interval. The music arrives at an ear that has not been prepared to receive it. The Default Mode Network may or may not suppress; the tap is too brief to reliably trigger the transition.
