/ðə ˈfriːzər dɔːr/Metaphor for the user interface.
Definition
The deceptive simplicity of an AI's conversational interface. To the
uninitiated user, the interface resembles an "Ice Cube Dispenser"—a
simple tool for simple, transactional tasks. The "Freezer Door" is the
mental barrier that prevents users from realizing that behind this
simple slot lies a "fully stocked freezer" of generative, latent
potential. Opening the door requires moving from transactional queries
to collaborative prompting.
The Interface Deception
The very design that makes AI accessible (the simple chat box) also
disguises its true nature. It trains users to expect a search engine,
hiding the high-dimensional strange loop of the model itself.
Field Notes & Ephemera
Field Note: You are standing in front of a magical
refrigerator that can cook you a five-course meal, but you are only
pressing the button for ice cubes because that is the only button you
see.
