Definition
A technique where the AI controls a specific character or adopts a
specific professional stance to "Simulate" a scenario for the user.
Unlike simple questioning, role-play creates an adversarial or complex
dynamic (e.g., "Act as a skeptical investor seeking flaws in my pitch").
This shifts the AI from a passive information retrieval system to an
active training partner.
The Flight Simulator for Social Skills
We use simulators to train pilots because crashing a real plane is
expensive. We can use AI to train negotiation, empathy, and debate
because crashing a real conversation can also be costly.
Field Notes & Ephemera
Field Note: The machine is an infinite cast of
actors. You are the director. If the scene is boring, give better
direction.
